When Humanity’s Falling Apart, He Holds It Together

Life beyond the picket fence isn’t just a ministry, it’s life - not the Instagram or Facebook kind, but the one you and I live that’s not the storybook image. The one that leaves a hole in your heart where pain, sadness, or loss resides.

Do you have a hole like that? IMG_0344 edOr is your pain so fresh and real that you’re afraid to give words to it? You’re living it, but you’re hiding behind the picture perfect image.

Regardless, it’s still there.

My life today is peaceful, though it hasn’t always been. Most things around me are in turmoil. The world, the lives of people I love, the kids whose stories bring a heartache I can’t explain.

When I came to the Father this morning, tears flowed for circumstances with uncertain endings. Intercession for people I love, for shattered dreams, for lives that weren’t supposed to be this way. I came in praise that Christ is victor over the dead. If I say He works and moves, I have to believe He’s going to work and move like He says He does.

In recent weeks, I’m drawn less to social media and more to the presence of Christ. I’m drawn more to His word and less to books by great writers. I’m drawn less to fear and more to faith that God is the God of the Old and New Testaments. He’s the God who saved Isaac from the alter when Abraham was obedient in believing. He’s the God who said Enough! when the Israelites became pagan and turned away from Him. He’s the God who gave them another chance through His Son, Jesus Christ. He’s the God who will judge again and whose Son will return.

I’m convinced of these things more today than years ago.

I wonder, do you believe the God of the picture perfect also redeems the broken? Do you believe in a faith based on feelings or in One whose character doesn’t change?

Do you know Jesus, the Son of God as your personal Savior?

He’s the One who makes sense when nothing else does. He’s the one to praise when life is peaceful. He’s the One who holds all things together when humanity is falling apart.

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.  For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for him.  He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross.  Colossians 1:15-19

I need to know that today. Do you?

I’m convinced God is bigger than we make Him. He’s greater than what we expect and He desires an intimate relationship with us. His promises are true and He doesn’t fail.

I need to know that today, too.

Life isn’t picture-perfect, but Jesus still brings peace.

What are your hurts, your fears, your wounds? How can I pray with you? Will you bring those wounds to Jesus, believing He will provide your needs in this moment?

Dear Father, thank you for being the source of everything. Thank you for holding all things together, for making the weak strong and for bringing new life from pain. Meet the needs of each reader who asks today. Thank you.
